Beach Relaxin' and Space Hoops

This creative, colorful, and crazy mural resulted from eight one-hour mural classes with the youth of the teen program of the Housing Authority of Salt Lake County. The teenagers worked on the mural from brainstorming to sketching to painting. The mural was painted at the day care center of the Housing Authority building in South Salt Lake. The teenagers and staff were a blast to work with, and the mural turned out really fun! Also check out the photo slideshow

Outdoor Nation Sidewalk Chalk Mural

Sidewalk chalk drawing, 11 x 49 feet large, in front of the Radisson Hotel in downtown Salt Lake City, UT. Commissioned by Outdoor Nation in order to welcome Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar on his visit to Salt Lake during the Outdoor Retailer's Convention. Dominic Suazo of CreateAesthetics worked as assistant artist. Thanks go out to Rick Shafer for allowing use of his photo of Cedar Mesa as reference. Thanks also to Danielle for her help with chalking.

This past weekend I drove 4 1/2 hours to Saint George, UT and painted this ocean mural for the eight-year old daughter of a resident there. I will happily paint a mural anywhere in the country with travel expenses paid :) Also, see the photo slideshow of the project

Children's Miracle Network

Today I delivered this mosaic mural to the new headquarters of the Children's Miracle Network. I designed and created the mosaic with the students at YouthCity Central City location this past Spring session. The project was highlighted in a recent Deseret News article.

Salt Lake County Youth Services

This past month I have been working with youth in the foster homes of Salt Lake County to create two large mosaic projects. Yesterday I finally completed installation, and here are the results:

Stone Wall

Here's the before and after pictures from a home in Farmington. The home is over a century old, but had an addition built onto it, so I was hired to make the addition fit more naturally by painting a stone wall on the surface. Thanks go out to the home owner for his help with construction / painting.

Kuester Home Makeover

I designed this room as part of a home makeover project with Heart 2 Home Foundation for the Kuester family. This room was for their four year old daughter. Thanks go out to volunteers from Century 21 and the Heart 2 Home Foundation, as well as my friend Erik Draper for their help with the painting.

I met with the representative of a local Swiss-themed resort today. To show my enthusiasm for possibly working with them in the future, I painted this landscape (based on 18th/19th century Swiss art) and gave it to them as a gift.

Dogs of Bark City

I decorated this plexiglass dog with ceramic mosaic for the Dogs of Bark City Project, benefiting the Park City Performing Arts Foundation, the Friends of Animals Utah, and the Mountain Trails Foundation. The dog is currently on display at its pet adoption store sponsor, Furburbia until the auction on December 28.

This is part of a large mural I am working on for a children's store called That's My Room at 2226 S 700 E in Salt Lake City, UT. The mural is scheduled to be completed by May 30th when the store will celebrate its first anniversary.

Ronald McDonald House Mural

Last Fall session I directed a mural making class at YouthCity Liberty Park. We created a 4 by 8 foot mural for the Ronald McDonald House of Salt Lake City, which will be installed soon in one of the parents' bedrooms there.

The Christmas Box House

Here is a set of murals that I recently designed for a new bike path/playground that was donated by Basic Research to the Christmas Box House in Salt Lake County, UT. The Christmas Box House is a residential facility for youth who are in state custody and are waiting to be placed in foster care.

Thanks go out to volunteers from Salt Lake Realtors Association, W Talent, University of Utah, LDS Young Women groups, the staff of Christmas Box International, and all others who painted. Special thanks to Sherri Engar of Christmas Box International for excellent work coordinating the project.

Hacienda Healthcare

Boys and Girls Club

In Spring 2008, I painted a mural about ethnic diversity in the Boys and Girls Club of Midvale, Utah. The result is a painting that reflects aspects of culture that I admire from various cultures (i.e. Brazilian dancing, Indian filmmaking, etc). There is also a search-and-find element to the mural, to help make it more interactive for the youth.

Fire Station

This past Saturday, December 10th was the opening of the new permanent "Fire Station" exhibit at the Children's Museum of Utah, designed and created by myself (of course, with the guidance and assistance of the Children's Museum staff and others).
